Common Questions Asked

I know I do not get back to people as fast as I should, but please bear with me, for at times I can get 100's of e-mails in a month, many are long letters, asking lots of detailed questions. My birds and my animals and of course MY FAMILY still come first, and they do take up most of the hours in a day for us. I will try to post some asked questions on this site, since Bird Breeder on-line Magazine has been dropped by Bird Talk Magazine.

Q. I saw the photos fo the Beautiful Mutation Cinnamon African Grey Parrots on your website; what color are their eyes???

A.  Cinnamon African Grey Parrots are born with RED eyes....

Q. Where are all those baby Grey Cheeks I use to see in the pet shops? Where can I find a baby for a pet?
A. Those cute little guys are now really hard to find, almost impossible! Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, 1000's were imported here to the U.S. yearly, but since importing of parrots has stopped, they are no longer brought into the the country. The baby grey cheeks are still being collected, but now go to other countries for pets as well as FOOD-for people!

Here very few people breed them, so it will be very hard to find one. You really may have to think about a different type of parrot for a pet. Conures make great pets, like Dusky conures for example! There are some Canary wings around, and they too make real nice little pets.

Very few people set up Grey Cheeked parakeet for pets. The people that did, bred very few chicks per year. And most of those birds that were brought into the states here back in the early 1990's have now gone to "birdie heaven". As far as looking for pet birds to use for Breeding, this was a species of bird that once they were taken into a household as a pet, these little guys became family members. There they lived out their lives, as part of a human family, and they too thought they were human too. So it was somewhat hard to find extra unwanted birds for breeding. Now only a small handful of people breed this species of birds. I only have a few younger pairs, and they too only breed when they feel like it. I also do have some Grey cheeks that are over 20 years old, but they are retired and no longer are breeding...

Q. What bird would make a great family pet and would talk as well. Looking for something that would become part of the family!
Most any type of conure would make a great pet. For a smaller bird, a Dusky conure is a great pet for a younger person. But if you want something a little bigger. The Blue Crown conure!! If anyone saw the movie Paulie, that movie does really speak for this species of bird. Most Blue Crowns when brought into a household as a young bird, will learn to talk and will become part of the family! I can not say enough about this species of bird. This is one of my favorites as a pet!!
